FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
Here are straight answers to the questions Derrick hears most from property owners in Hinesville and across Southeast Georgia. If yours isn't here, give him a call.
01Getting an Estimate
Getting an Estimate
Do you charge to come look at my property?
No. Estimates are free. Derrick will come out, walk the property, and give you a price for the work.
What should I tell you when I reach out?
It helps to share where the property is, roughly how big the area is, and what you want it to look like when the work is done. Photos are welcome, too. That gives Derrick a head start before he comes out.
What if the price is more than I expected?
Say so. Derrick would rather talk it through with you and land on a price that works for both of you than have you walk away. Once you agree on a price, it goes into a signed agreement before any work starts.
02Job Size and Travel
Job Size and Travel
Is there a minimum job size?
For forestry mulching and land clearing, the minimum is generally about one acre. Smaller jobs usually don't cover the cost of fuel and hauling the equipment out. For stump grinding or landscaping, call and describe what you have.
How far will you travel?
Derrick is based in Hinesville and works within about 150 miles, covering most of Southeast Georgia and parts of South Carolina, including the Hardeeville area. The farther out your property is, the larger the job usually needs to be to make the trip worthwhile. See the Service Areas page for details.
Do you work on homes, or only big tracts of land?
Both. Derrick works with homeowners, private landowners, and commercial properties. Job sizes range from about an acre up to 100-acre tracts.
03Scheduling and Timing
Scheduling and Timing
What are your hours?
Derrick is available seven days a week, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
How long will my job take?
It depends on the size of the property and how thick the growth is. As a rough guide, three to four acres of forestry mulching takes about a day and a half, and a 100-acre tract takes about a week to a week and a half. You'll get a time estimate along with your price.
Can land be cleared in the winter?
Yes. Clearing and mulching run all year in Southeast Georgia, and winter is actually a busy time. Many landowners want their property opened up before hunting season, for camping, or before the summer growth and snakes come back.
Why don't you book jobs back to back?
Because rushing is how land gets left in a mess. Derrick plans the time each job really needs so he can finish it right before moving on to the next one.
04Working With D Brown Off the Chain
Working With D Brown Off the Chain
Who actually does the work?
Derrick does. D Brown Off the Chain is owner-operated, so the person who gives you the estimate is the same person running the equipment on your land.
Do you walk the property before you start?
Yes, every time. Brush can hide holes, soft ground, wet spots, and things people left behind. On one job, Derrick found a whole bicycle buried in the brush. Walking the land first protects your property and the equipment.
Do you do grading or land leveling?
No. D Brown Off the Chain clears, mulches, bush hogs, and grinds stumps, but does not grade or level land. If your project needs grading after clearing, you'll need a separate contractor for that part.
Do you still offer lawn care and landscaping?
Yes. Landscaping is where the business started. Lawn mowing, hedge trimming, weed eating, mulching, and property maintenance are still available for homes and businesses around Hinesville. Learn more on the Landscaping Services page.
What forms of payment do you accept?
Cash, check, Zelle, Cash App, and credit cards.
