Land clearing, bush hogging and stump grinding for homeowners, private landowners and businesses across Southeast Georgia, from Savannah to Darien and anywhere within 150 miles of Hinesville, including the South Carolina Lowcountry.
Honest Work, Done Right, on Land We Treat Like Our Own
D Brown Off the Chain is owned and run by Derrick Brown, a Hinesville native who has been cutting trees, mulching and clearing land since he was 18. Before launching this business, Derrick ran his own tree service company in South Georgia for years. Today he runs a leaner operation based in Liberty County, focused on forestry mulching and land clearing for homeowners, private landowners and commercial clients across Southeast Georgia.
We handle the full range of land work: forestry mulching, land and lot clearing, brush and underbrush removal, bush hogging, stump grinding and landscaping. Derrick runs the equipment on every job himself, so the person who quotes your project is the person who clears it. We walk every property before the machines go in, take the time to do it right, and leave your land the way you asked for it. When anything to do with trees, timber or overgrown land comes up, Derrick is the call to make.
Wet spots, old wire and buried junk get found on foot, not with a mulcher head. On one yard he pulled a whole bicycle out of the brush first.
He runs the machine himself.
The man who quotes your job is the man in the cab. No crew you have never met, no hand-off.
He finishes before he moves on.
No stacked jobs, no half-done tracts. Three to four acres is about a day and a half, and the schedule is built around that.
02Services
Forestry Mulching, Land Clearing & Bush Hogging Services
From a single overgrown acre to a 100-acre timber tract, we clear, mulch and maintain land across Southeast Georgia. Every job is quoted and handled by the owner, from Hinesville to Savannah, Darien and beyond.
Five steps, the same on a one-acre backyard and a hundred-acre tract. Scroll to walk through them.
1Step 1 of 5
Free Estimate & Property Walk
Call or fill out the form, and Derrick will set a time to look at your land at no cost. He walks the property on foot before quoting, checking for wet spots, soft ground, fence lines and anything hidden in the brush. That walk keeps your job safe and the price accurate.
2Step 2 of 5
Clearing Plan & Straight Price
We go over exactly what stays and what goes: which trees to keep, where the underbrush comes out, and which stumps get ground down. You get a clear price and a realistic timeline. If the number doesn't work for you, we'll talk it through and find a price that does.
3Step 3 of 5
Scheduling & Mobilization
We schedule your job with enough time to do it right, not wedged between back-to-back jobs. On the scheduled day, the forestry mulcher, tractor and stump grinder arrive at your property ready to work. Most 3-4 acre jobs take about a day and a half, and larger tracts are planned out day by day.
4Step 4 of 5
Mulching, Clearing & Stump Grinding
The forestry mulcher grinds brush, small trees and underbrush into a layer of mulch that stays on the ground to protect the soil, so there are no burn piles and no hauling. Stumps are ground down level with the ground, and open fields get bush hogged. Derrick works carefully around the trees you're keeping and the soft spots found during the walk.
5Step 5 of 5
Cleanup & Final Walk-Through
When the work is done, we walk the property with you to make sure it matches what you asked for. Anything that needs touching up gets handled before we load out. You're left with usable, open land, whether that means a building site, a hunting tract, a pasture or a backyard you can enjoy again.
04Before and after
From brush you can’t walk to woods you can
Overgrown ground in Southeast Georgia goes from open to impassable in a few seasons. One pass with the mulcher takes it back to a clean layer of ground cover with the big trees still standing. Nothing burned, nothing hauled.
No actors and no stock footage. This is Derrick’s Bobcat taking an overgrown, vine-covered thicket back to the edge of the lawn, filmed on the job. The gallery has more clips from his jobs around Southeast Georgia.

06Why D Brown
Why Southeast Georgia Landowners Choose D Brown Off the Chain
Derrick Brown · Owner and operator
01
The Owner Is on Every Job
Derrick runs the equipment himself. There's no crew of strangers on your land and no wondering who is showing up. The person who walks your property and quotes the job is the same person running the forestry mulcher.
02
A Lifetime in Trees and Timber
Derrick has been cutting trees, mulching and clearing land since he was 18, and he previously built and ran his own tree service in South Georgia. Whatever is growing on your property, he has handled it before.
03
We Walk Your Land Before We Clear It
Every job starts with a walk on foot. Hidden soft spots, sinkholes and debris buried under the brush can wreck equipment or damage your property if someone just drives straight in. Derrick once pulled an entire bicycle out from under the brush before clearing a yard. Taking that time protects your land and keeps your job on track.
04
Your Property Never Gets Rushed
We don't stack jobs back to back and hurry through yours to get to the next one. We treat your land the way we'd treat our own, take the time the work needs, and leave it clean and finished, the kind of result people tell their neighbors about.
05
Straight Talk on Price, 7 Days a Week
Estimates are always free, and if a quote doesn't fit your budget, we'll talk it through honestly. We're available 8am to 8pm, seven days a week, year-round, including winter, when landowners clear property for hunting season. We accept cash, check, Zelle, Cash App and credit cards.

09Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does forestry mulching cost per acre?
Forestry mulching cost per acre depends on how thick the vegetation is, the size of the trees, the terrain and how much total acreage you have. Light brush on dry, flat ground goes much faster than dense woods with wet spots. Larger tracts usually come in at a better per-acre rate because setup and travel are spread across more ground. The only way to get an accurate number is to walk the land, so we do that and give you a free, no-obligation estimate.
What's the difference between forestry mulching and land clearing?
Traditional land clearing usually pushes trees and brush into piles that then have to be burned or hauled away. Forestry mulching uses a single machine to grind vegetation in place and spread it back over the ground as mulch. That means no burn piles, no debris hauling, and far less soil disturbance and erosion. We offer both and will recommend whichever fits your land and your plans for it.
What affects the cost of land clearing?
The biggest factors are acreage, tree size and density, how many stumps need grinding, ground conditions and how far the property is from Hinesville. Selective clearing, where you keep certain trees, takes more care than clearing everything. We have a 1-acre minimum, and jobs farther out may need a larger minimum to cover travel and fuel. Every estimate is free, and we'll walk you through exactly what's driving the price.
Is stump grinding the same as stump removal?
Not quite. Stump removal pulls the entire stump and root ball out of the ground, which leaves a large hole. Stump grinding uses a grinder to chew the stump down level with the ground, so the area can be mowed, seeded or built on without major digging. For most yards, lots and land clearing projects, grinding is the faster, cleaner and more affordable option, and it's what we provide.
How often should I bush hog a field?
Most fields and pastures in Southeast Georgia do well with bush hogging one to three times a year, depending on how fast things grow and how you use the land. Hay fields and grazing pasture often get mowed after the main growing flush in late spring or summer, while land you just want to keep from turning into woods may only need it once a year. Waiting too long lets saplings take hold, which can turn a quick mowing job into forestry mulching. We're happy to suggest a schedule that fits your property.
What is underbrush clearing, and when is the best time to do it?
Underbrush clearing removes the thick shrubs, vines, briars and saplings growing under the tree canopy, while leaving the mature trees standing. It opens up wooded land for walking, hunting, trails and fire safety, and makes the property much easier to enjoy. Fall and winter are a popular time in Georgia: growth has slowed, snakes are less active, and landowners want their property open before hunting season. We clear underbrush year-round, though, with no seasonal shutdown.
Do you handle residential land clearing, or only big tracts?
We do both. Residential land clearing for homesites, backyards and private parcels is a big part of what we do, alongside commercial projects and large timber tracts of up to 100 acres. Our minimum job size is 1 acre for properties near Hinesville, and it may be a bit higher for properties farther out to cover travel. If you're not sure whether your project qualifies, call us and we'll tell you straight.
Whether it's a wooded homesite, an overgrown pasture or a hunting tract that needs opening up, Derrick will walk your land and give you an honest, free estimate. He handles every job himself, takes the time to do it right, and leaves your property ready to use. Call today or request your free estimate online.
